The Boeing 777, which first flew on June 12, 1994, is the largest twin engine passenger aircraft in the world. Its size approaches that of the 747, and the engines alone have a diameter equal to that of the fuselage of a Boeing 737. The 777 is Boeingβs first aircraft to employ digital fly-by-wire technology. It employs state-of-the-art avionics and color cockpit information displays. Development of the 777 was an international project β over 20% of the plane is built in Japan. In addition, the 777 was the first commercial airliner developed from the start with the active participation of the airline companies that would be its ultimate customers. The 777-300 model featured lengthened front and aft fuselage sections (compared to the 777-200). To compensate for the added length the plane is equipped with upgraded engines. Mini cameras are installed on both sides of the horizontal stabilizer and on the front landing gear for safe taxiing. A retractable rear tailskid prevents the tail from scraping the runway during a steep takeoff. Maximum seating capacity for the Boeing 777-300 is 550 passengers.
