During WWII the legendary Studebaker US6 truck became the symbol of the American Lend-Lease program. This excellent car was developed following a US government order and the first mass-production unit left the line in June 1941. The US6 wasn’t accepted as the standard US Army Truck and so Allies became the main users. Most of them were delivered to the Soviet Union, where they were used in the Red Army to carry loads, soldiers and goods as well as gun tractors. They also became a base for several installations, such as various multiple launch rocket systems. The most famous WWII Soviet MLRS was BM-13-16N, nicknamed ‘Katyusha’. These vehicles were in service with Guard mortar units since April 1943. BM-13 was a formidable weapon loved by soldiers and feared by enemies.
